Wonder how costume designers help create characters for the screen? Well-illustrated lectures will cover iconic movies in the field of design and reveal behind-the-scenes of the design process. Also: the many styles of cinematic genres from fantasy to sci-fi and from costume dramas to comedies, studio styles from golden era Hollywood, fashion in film, and influential designers and filmmakers. We will watch selected films ahead of time via streaming and end each class with a film discussion focusing on the designs and how they support the visual storytelling.
Faculty Bio
Maggie Morgan is a costume designer for stage and screen with experience working on films such as Apollo 13, Casino, and Men in Black. She is a professor emeritus of UC Davis.
