The Future is Here: Four Keys to the New Retirement with Maddy Dychtwald

For many of us, our futures will consist of a longer life than previous generations. With the convergence of rising longevity, the aging of the massive Boomer generation, and widespread financial insecurity, the future of traditional retirement is poised for change. The question of how to personally define and create a healthy and productive long life and the changing role of retirement is becoming more and more pressing.

Each of us need to ask ourselves: If we’re going to live to 80, 90, 100 or more, what do we need to plan for? What role does retirement play in this new era of longevity? How do we stay strong and resilient -- physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and financially?

Join OLLI at UC Berkeley for a presentation by Maddy Dychtwald, best-selling author and thought leader on longevity, on Thursday, March 7, 3:30–5 PM, in the Don Tatzin Community Hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center at 3491 Mount Diablo Blvd, Lafayette. The event will also be livestreamed and recorded.

Dychtwald will draw on cutting-edge Age Wave research that spans five generations, outlining the forces reshaping retirement and what we each can do to optimize the years ahead.

Topics to be discussed:

  • How old is old and how long might you live?
  • Why women and men have different lifespan challenges
  • The four key ingredients to a successful retirement
  • The biggest fear of older adults and steps to alleviate that fear
  • How the demands of caregiving impact retirement planning
  • How social connections impact our health
  • The role of purpose in our longer lives
  • The importance of lifelong learning in a successful retirement
  • Why work in retirement is gaining traction
  • The link between financial peace-of-mind and improved healthspan
