[Town Hall] After the Election: A World in Crisis

How will the world respond to the many and multiple challenges emerging from a new Trump administration? Tariffs, deportations, Panama, Greenland? What shall we do in response here at home? With the belief that engagement rather than resignation is the only way forward, let's start with understanding the broader world context after the inauguration. We are fortunate to have several speakers with extensive experience in Europe, Nordic Countries, and Latin America. Berkeley professor Darren Zook will moderate. Future Town Halls will explore options for a strong defense of the values we care about.

Speakers include:

  • Isaac Chotiner is a staff writer at The New Yorker, where he is the principal contributor to Q. & A., a series of interviews with public figures in politics, media, books, business, technology, and more.

  • Harley Shaiken is Berkeley Professor Emeritus of Geography and Education focused on the intersection of global economic integration, labor, the organization of work, and information technology.

  • Beverly Crawford is Berkeley Professor Emerita of Political Science and Political Economy whose work centers on global conflicts and refugee crises, international political economy, and ethnic and religious conflicts.

  • Michael Baker is a retired surgeon who served in the military and retired as a rear admiral. Baker has visited Kyiv multiple times recently to teach Advanced Trauma Life Support to Ukrainian physicians.
