Food Politics and Policy 2026: A Conversation brings together two leading voices in food policy and public health. Join nutrition scholar and author Marion Nestle and health equity advocate Marion Standish for a timely discussion of the forces shaping what we eat — from industry influence and government policy to access, equity, and public health — and what lies ahead for building a healthier, more just food system.


About the Speakers

Marion Nestle, PhD, MPH is the Paulette Goddard Professor Emerita of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University and one of the nation’s leading voices on food policy. Her career spans academia, government service, and public engagement, including work as a senior nutrition policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Nestle is the author of influential books such as Food PoliticsSafe FoodSoda Politicsand, most recently, What to Eat Nowwhich examine how industry, politics, and science shape what we eat. She continues to write and speak widely on nutrition, health, and food systems.

Marion Standish, JD, MA is a nationally recognized leader in food policy, public health, and health equity. Formerly a senior advisor at The California Endowment, she directed major initiatives focused on healthy food access, obesity prevention, and community health. She is also a co-founder of California Food Policy Advocates, where she led research and advocacy to improve nutrition programs for low-income families. With a background in law, philanthropy, and grassroots policy work, Standish has helped shape state and national efforts to advance equitable food systems and community-driven health solutions.
