As we age, we more often hear about friends and relatives whose health or abilities are changing. Many of us feel unsure how to reach out or what to say. Therapist and author Susan Halpern, who has long facilitated groups for people with acute and chronic illness, has learned words and actions that bring comfort to both giver and recipient. In this month’s Vital Aging Forum, we’ll explore and share ways to expand our repertoire of heartfelt responses when someone is suffering.
