From the Sierra Nevada to the Himalayas, mountains are a source of inspiration, renewal, and meaning. Illustrated with spectacular photography, this course will explore the implications of climate change and environmental conservation for sacred mountains. Drawing on personal experience, extensive research, and his work with national parks and protected areas, Ed Bernbaum will lead discussions about the many ways that mountains evoke the highest values and aspirations of cultures around the world.

Edwin Bernbaum is a mountaineer and scholar of comparative religion and mythology whose work centers on the relationship between culture and nature. His book Sacred Mountains of the World won the Commonwealth Club’s gold medal for nonfiction. An updated edition has just been published by Cambridge University Press.
